Spread over 3.5 acres of land beside the Haryana Jhajjar highway, Gokul Dham Gau Seva Mahatirth is the first of its kind animal hospital in Haryana. It was established in 2013 by Sunil Nimana with the sole purpose of helping injured and abandoned cows who are left on the streets to fend for themselves. Sunil had his own construction business before he had started this animal hospital - so what inspired him to embark on this journey?
Sunil mentions how he had visited many gaushalas that were doing commendable work of taking care of the gaumatas and nandis, but he hardly saw any fully-equipped hospital for the injured and diseased animals.
“I had always wanted to do something for them and finally when my grand mother told me that her last wish was that I take care of these innocent animals, I knew that this is how I will give back to society. These cows are no less than mothers to us and it is heartbreaking to see them going through such pain,” - Sunil Nimana, Founder, Gokul Dham Gau Seva Mahatirth.
Sunil talks of how these animals are subjected to terrible cruelties - some throw acid on the cows, while others deliberately put their sheds on fire. On a daily basis, they receive about 40-50 calls of rescue, and not one of them goes unanswered. Sunil adds that the accident cases increase during the rainy season as well.
“We have around 15 ambulances and a dedicated team of 30 veterinary doctors who work day and night to give these cows a comfortable life. We have performed around 4000+ surgeries that include C-section, hernia removal, horn cancer, amputation, or taking out iron and plastic from the stomach of the cows. Our operation theatre, X-ray, and ultrasound machines help us take better care of these animals.”
In the past years, Gokul Dham animal hospital has rescued and treated around 92000 cows and other animals like peacocks, monkeys, and nilgais in need. They are a safe home to 1000+ cows out of which hundreds are paralysed and need constant care. These cows are in no condition to live on the roads and the dedicated staff does everything they can to keep them comfortable.
“We have always been fortunate to receive donations and support from our well-wishers but the need is ever-increasing. More and more injured cows are left stranded on the roads with no one to care for them. We want to help each one of them. My dream is to give the best facilities to these injured animals and for that, I would need your support.”
Gokul Dham Gau Seva Mahatirth is requesting you to donate medicines and surgical equipment so that they can save many more animals in danger. With every small donation, you will be helping the cause of an injured cow in need of support.
